The average wait is between 3 to 5 years, however each adoption is unique, and this time frame can vary.

No, the birth parents cannot remove the child later. The birth parents sign a consent form at the time the child is placed which allows them a maximum of ten days to change their minds.

Yes. There are costs associated with an adoption and the services to complete the adoption. All fees are kept in trust until the services are rendered. ASMA is a non-profit organization and does not receive any government funding to offset the costs of adoptions. We encourage adopting parents to book a one-to-one consultation with a social worker to discuss fees, policies and adoption practice.

For domestic adoption, we expect couples to accept a child of any gender/sex. The adopting parents can specify a preference for ethnicity; however, if they are very specific, it could limit the number of times their profile would be shown.

We encourage adopting parents to book a one-to-one consultation with ASMA social worker. There are many steps required to move through the adoption process and a large amount of information is needed to be collected (seminar attendance, application, criminal record checks, child intervention checks, medicals, references, childhood history, trauma, fertility issues, child considerations, openness and contact, homestudy etc.)

Yes. Part of the associated cost involved in an adoption is for this specific purpose. We have trained professional, registered Social Workers to help with every step of the adoption process for birth parents/guardians, adopting parents and their families.
